In this two hour training, participants will define culture, learn about Polyvagal Theory and the role of safety in the sandtray, explore the fundamentals of Play Therapy & Sandtray Therapy, identify some creative ways to access cultural wisdom in Sandtray Therapy with a variety of client presentations, and create a sandtray that accesses thier cultural wisdom.

Training Objectives
At the conclusion of this training, participants will be able to:
- Define and describe at least three key dimensions of culture and their relevance to clinical decision-making in play therapy and sandtray work.
- Explain the role of felt safety, including polyvagal-informed principles, in supporting culturally responsive sandtray interventions.
- Identify and apply at least two culturally responsive strategies to support clients in accessing their own cultural wisdom through sandtray processes.
- Demonstrate the use of soothing visual, tactile, and auditory bilateral stimulation options within sandtray therapy to support regulation and cultural attunement.
- Develop and articulate a culturally informed sandtray intervention that reflects sensitivity to the cultural needs of diverse clinical populations.

Jessica Crunkleton aka "The Resource Queen" is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT), a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), a Certified Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselor Level II (CADAC II), a Sandtray Therapist, an EMDR Parent-Child Attachment Specialist, a Certified Brainspotting Practitioner, an Emotionally Focused (EFT) Couples Therapist, & an Adverse Childhood Experience (ACES) Master Education Trainer. Moreover, Jessica is a seasoned Play Therapist and is currently working towards becoming a Registered Play Therapist (RPT). She was recently elected to serve on the EMDRIA Board of Directors.
Jessica is licensed to practice in Illinois, Missouri, & Indiana. She owns a successful private practice called Jessica Crunkleton LLC, located near Saint Louis, MO. She sees clients in person and online. Jessica specializes in providing attachment-focused, trauma-informed, & culturally attuned therapy for kids, teens, adults, couples, families, & groups. She likes working with diverse populations, including groups that have experienced marginalization, such as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, & People of Color) and LGBTQIA+.
Jessica is also a federal government-contracted Area Clinician for the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). She provides Employee Assistance Program (EAP) & Crisis Response (CISM) services for DEA employees & their family members located worldwide. She specializes in working with Law Enforcement, First Responders, the military, & veterans. In addition, Jessica enjoys teaching others about cultural responsiveness through the eight phases of EMDR & how to competently integrate EMDR with other forms of therapy.
Jessica is an EMDRIA Approved Trainer, Consultant, & Certified EMDR Therapist. She began her EMDR Basic Training journey back in 2017. As a neurodivergent (ADHD) & BIPOC therapist, Jessica initially struggled to integrate EMDR into her clinical practice. However, with supportive guidance, Jessica became successful at integrating EMDR, & her early challenges ultimately inspired her to teach other clinicians about EMDR.
Jessica graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. She then went on to receive a Master of Science degree in Marriage & Family Therapy & Community Counseling from John Brown University. Afterward, Jessica continued her clinical training by becoming a Functional Family Therapy (FFT) Therapist, an Emotionally Focused Couple (EFCT) Therapist, a TF-CBT Therapist, a Prepare/Enrich Relationship Enrichment Facilitator, an Addiction Counselor, & an EMDR-Sandtray Specialist.
Jessica has been in the Mental Health field for over fifteen years. She has worked in a variety of treatment settings, including outpatient, school, home, hospital, church, acute, IOP/PHP, residential, & correctional. Additionally, she has extensive experience working with First Responders, Domestic Violence, & Sexual Assault as well as children & families involved with the Department of Child Services (DCS) &/or Juvenile Probation. Jessica enjoys writing & speaking about Mental health-related topics to help educate the public & reduce stigma.
